Dad - Part 5

Posted on 10:02 by Unknown
I realized today that I never finished the series on my dad. So, here goes nothing.

Friday morning, the day after Thanksgiving, my sister and I woke up early and headed over to the hospital. My other sister and step-mom were already there.

We just spent time with our dad, without anyone else in the room. It was a nice change to the pace that had been of the room being overflowing all the time. My dad was off all of the machines and was starting to turn really Yellow from his liver failing. It was not easy to look at.
I sat at the end of us bed, in a chair facing him. I just looked at him. I thought about so much and nothing at the same time. My dad was dying before my very eyes. I felt numb.

At about 9:45, I noticed that my dad had goosebumps. My dad was NEVER cold, my dad was always sweating. When I saw the goosebumps, I knew it was the end. My dad took one last struggling breath, and that was it. He was gone.
My sisters, step-mom, and I cried and were there for each other. We each grieved different things and in different ways. My step-mom lost her husband. My sisters lost their dad. I lost my dad, but in a different way than my sisters did. In a lot of ways, it was just a new kind of mourning. My sisters had many more good years with our dad than I did. It was just different.

We stayed at the hospital most of the day.
Family came and went.

We said our goodbyes.

It was weird driving away from the hospital, knowing that we wouldn't be going back to see Dad again. That was it.
I did all I know how to do. I cried and went to Target to get Christmas decorations.

We went back to the house and put up the Christmas tree, that Parker soon pulled down on top of himself that made me pee my pants, and just spent time together.

On Sunday, we had a memorial BBQ for my dad. It was his style.

BBQ, Pepsi, and no frills.

On Friday, November 27, 2009, my dad took his last breath.

Forgotten God

Posted on 09:42 by Unknown
I have posted, in the past, about Francis Chan's Book, CRAZY LOVE.

Francis Chan has done it again.

His recent book, Forgotten God, is just incredible. It is about The Holy Spirit.

I have had to re-read the intro and chapter 1 over and over again.

READ IT!

Idol

Posted on 09:36 by Unknown
I won't lie... I have a favorite.

My brother-in-law, Jon, is addicted to Filipino singers on YouTube. Through this obsession, he found Andrew Garcia BEFORE Andrew was on Idol. We have been watching Andrew's videos for a LONG time. If you haven't looked him up on YouTube yet, do yourself a favor. You will become an insta-fan like us.

All this to say...

I LOVE Katie Stevens... she is my people (Portuguese).
I think Crystal Bowersox can SING... but is not an "American Idol".
ANDREW GARCIA is my favorite.

He just is.

*Disclaimer: I know that this post is lame in some respects. I DON'T CARE! :)

Ellen Show Part 2

Posted on 09:26 by Unknown
As most of you know, I was on The Ellen Show back in 2008.
It was the St. Patrick's Day Episode.
I was picked to play a game, Minnie Driver was my partner, we won.
I won a trip to Ireland.

Watch it here...
http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2008/03/the_luck_of_the_irish.php?page=4
Well, I took the trip. Kind of.

Read about the disaster HERE.

So, that sucks.
But, it's all good.

I'm over it. Kind of.

I got 4 tickets to go to The Ellen Show again this year. The taping was for the St. Patrick's Day episode. We weren't so lucky this year.
In fact, we got Triscuits.
Yes, Triscuits.

I sound ungrateful. I don't mean to.

It was a great time. Katelynn, Anna, and Debbie were great company.

We sat in the front row and danced on TV.
All this to say...

I hope Ellen sends me on a trip again someday.

There, I said it! :)

I want to go to Ireland, and actually GO this time.

Valentine's Day 20Ten

Posted on 12:31 by Unknown
Gina is one of my dearest friends.

We met during my freshman year at SPU in some Youth Ministry classes. We instantly bonded. We did every group project together (which Gina DOES NOT procrastinate so it was a learning process for me to not put things off), we kidnapped our favorite professor and headed north to Canada for the day, and we drove home to Southern California at the end of the year.

A few years ago, Gina got married to a wonderful man. Keep in mind, they were together for like 9 years before getting married. Gina and Kevin live in an adorable house in Huntington Beach, within miles of each of their parents.

Back in December, after countless attempts at a good date to hang out, we planned on Presidents Day Weekend, as Kevin would be out of town and I would have a 4 day weekend. We set it stone and didn't let anything get in the way. No baby shower, birthday party, art show, ladies night, or anything else would get in the way.

I spent Friday-Sunday with Gina, and her parents too. We saw Valentine's Day, went to dinner at the great Mexican food place, watched Sex and The City, walked around downtown Huntington and along the beach, hung out with family, and sat in the hot tub with wine. The whole weekend was good for my soul.

Gina and her parents are just great people. People who feel like home. People who love the Lord and love people. I feel deeply blessed and honored to know Gina, Bruce and Becky. And Lara too. :)
